The Fine Fish - about the courageous journey of a visionary and new approaches to fish farming

Behind every successful idea are people who think outside the box. People who are not satisfied with the status quo and break new ground. Do you want to know who is behind “The Fine Fish” and what values we stand for? Then get to know our story and that of our driving force - Andreas Drexler - here.

The Fine Fish: Andreas Drexler and the leap into the unknown

The story of The Fine Fish begins in 2014. At a time when the situation in Europe was dominated by economic uncertainty and political challenges, the current sole shareholder Andreas Drexler decided to embark on a journey that would take him far beyond the borders of Europe. Even then, Andreas Drexler was no stranger to entrepreneurship. He had already built up several successful company investments and developed an interesting portfolio in various sectors. Spurred on by the idea of making the world more sustainable and and concerned about individual developments, he was looking for new fields of activity and a place where stability and opportunity went hand in hand. That place was to be Australia. With a solid political and economic situation and many untapped opportunities, the country on the other side of the world seemed to be the ideal destination for Drexler's expansion plans.

A journey with setbacks

Andreas Drexler, who knows how to assess calculated risks, had already mastered many challenges in his career. But what awaited him in Australia challenged him too. The Australian business world and the sometimes major cultural differences presented him with hurdles that he had never experienced in Europe. In particular, the legal and infrastructural framework conditions of the food industry Down Under proved to be almost insurmountable barriers. It was only numerous applications, market studies and negotiations later that he succeeded in entering the Australian fishing industry in 2014. With a minority stake in a fish farming company for giant grouper, the courageous entrepreneur plunged into new territory. Although fish farming was new territory for Andreas, he didn't let the initial doubts put him off. It was clear to him that he was investing in an industry that was becoming increasingly important worldwide, as the demand for sustainable and healthy food was growing rapidly. And above all, it was clear to him that fish farming could be done differently - in an ecologically sound and sustainable way. Australia, with its clean waters and geographical isolation, seemed to be an ideal place for a new type of controlled and environmentally friendly farming.

The path to sustainable fish farming

Unfortunately, the reality was different at first. What initially seemed promising soon turned out to be one of the biggest challenges as an entrepreneur. The fish stocks in which the Drexler team had placed its trust and capital suffered inexplicable losses time and again. Within the first few years of its launch, the company faced a serious crisis. The situation was not only financially challenging, but also called into question the future viability of his project.

Science meets future makers

Many people would have buried their heads in the sand at this point or quickly fled the scene, but not Andreas Drexler and his team. Because giving up on an idea that he really believes in is not in his nature. Instead, he decided to get to the root of the problem and rethink everything from scratch. In order to find the cause of the problems with smooth rearing, he relied on scientific expertise. Why not work with scientists and independent experts who could offer unconventional solutions to the problems of fish farming? could offer? So they turned to Dr. Bert Wecker, a renowned expert in the field of aquaculture. As luck would have it, he was also involved in grouper farming. However, he kept coming up against limits, which is why there was great curiosity as to where Drexler and his team stood. After some initial scepticism, they finally agreed to work together and Dr. Wecker visited the Australian pioneers.

Saving fish farming through innovation

“According to my previous knowledge, what I saw there shouldn't actually happen,” Andreas Drexler later recalled the surprised statement by scientist Dr. Wecker. The giant grouper, which had previously been considered almost unsuitable for indoor indoor breeding, thrived under the conditions created by Drexler in sustainable aquafarming. It was only small but significant details that Dr. Wecker improved and that finally brought the breakthrough. The turning point of “The Fine Fish” was reached and a completely new process was established that made it possible to breed the Giant Grouper successfully, healthily and sustainably. The innovation soon attracted the attention of international experts and put Andreas Drexler and his company in a leading position within the industry. Tireless commitment and the willingness to consistently question existing practices ultimately paid off.

Sustainability through aquafarming as the secret to success

But the Fine Fish team was not finished yet. In 2019, Andreas Drexler took over the entire fish farm and became the sole shareholder. He was now able to consistently and quickly put his desire to farm the cleanest and healthiest fish into practice. His tireless commitment and willingness to constantly question existing practices also helped him to achieve this. After all, they didn't just want to be successful, they wanted to make a difference and set new standards in fish farming and reduce the burden on the oceans. To achieve this, a number of changes were made within the company and throughout the entire breeding process. Antibiotics, hormones and other chemical additives, which are often used in conventional fish farming, were never an option for The Fine Fish. The fish should grow up in pure, clean water and be fed with feed that has not been genetically manipulated. “Our philosophy is to offer the conscious consumer a food that is as pure as nature itself and, on top of that offers a special taste experience,” says Andreas Drexler.

The Fine Fish: “We have a responsibility towards future generations”

However, the true secret of The Fine Fish's success lies not only in the sustainability of the project, but also in its sense of ecological responsibility for tomorrow. “It's not just about being economically successful, but also about giving something back - to nature, to people and to the world we live in.” For Andreas Drexler, it is clear that his pioneering work is just the beginning. And that The Fine Fish will soon be providing healthy and sustainable fish enjoyment on every continent.
